Reign Cloud™ FAQ

Simple answers about Reign Cloud, setup, storage, backups, privacy, and beta expectations.

Product Basics

What is Reign Cloud?

Reign Cloud is your personal cloud from Nimbus Systems. It keeps your files on storage you control at home, and you manage it from the Nimbus mobile app.

How is this different from Google Drive or iCloud?

With Reign Cloud, your files live on your own storage drive at home, rather than being stored on someone else’s cloud storage by default.

Do I need a subscription?

Reign Cloud is ownership-first. Optional services, especially expanded remote access, may become available in the future, but your files are designed to live on your own storage.

Is Reign Cloud a NAS?

No. It is meant to feel like a simple home appliance you plug in and use, without needing technical setup.

Setup & Requirements

What do I need to get started?

A home internet connection for first-time setup, a router, power, a supported storage drive, a phone with the Nimbus app, and your Reign ID.

Do I need a router?

Yes. Reign Cloud connects to your home router with the included network cable.

Do I need internet access?

Internet is required to create your account and complete first-time setup. After that, many features can still work on your home network.

Do I need to be on the same Wi-Fi during setup?

Yes. Connect your phone to the same home Wi-Fi network as your Reign Cloud appliance during initial setup and pairing.

What phones are supported?

The Nimbus app is available for Android during beta. iPhone support is not available while Apple Developer enrollment is pending approval and iOS validation is still in progress.

What devices does Reign Cloud back up?

Reign Cloud is currently focused on backing up photos and videos from your phone. Additional device support and backup options may become available in future releases.

Storage & Hardware

What type of storage should I use?

For the best experience, use a reliable external SSD.

Can I use USB flash drives or SD cards?

You can, but low-cost flash drives and SD cards may wear out faster under frequent rewriting. They are not ideal as your main everyday backup drive.

What is exFAT?

exFAT is a common drive format recommended during beta because it is currently the smoothest, best-supported option.

How many storage drives can I use?

During beta, Reign Cloud supports one active storage drive at a time. You may replace your drive, but only one active drive is supported at a time.

What happens if my drive fills up?

Backups pause to avoid unsafe overfilling. Your existing files should remain accessible, and you can free space or upgrade your drive.

Privacy & Ownership

Where are my files stored?

On the storage drive attached to your Reign Cloud device at home.

Are my files uploaded to Nimbus Systems servers?

Nimbus servers do not store or view customer files. Remote access may use a relay connection, but your files are designed to remain on your own storage.

Can I access files remotely?

Remote access is available during beta, but it may be temporarily unavailable when you are away from home. That does not necessarily mean your Reign Cloud appliance is broken. When remote access is unavailable, access at home on the same Wi-Fi may still work. Your files remain on your storage drive attached to your appliance. Expanded remote-access features may become available later as optional premium services.

Who owns my data?

You do. Reign Cloud is designed around user-owned storage and ownership continuity.

Backups & Reliability

Does backup happen automatically?

Automatic photo backup is designed for Wi-Fi use during beta. You can also start backup manually.

How long does the first backup take?

Large first backups can take hours depending on your photo library size.

What if Wi-Fi disconnects?

Most issues are recoverable. Once your router is stable again, rebooting Reign Cloud and restarting the app often helps.

Does reinstalling the app back everything up twice?

Not usually. The app may re-scan your library, but it is intended to recognize what is already backed up.

Support, Troubleshooting & Updates

What should I do first if something goes wrong?

Wait a few minutes, restart the Nimbus app, check power/cables/storage, then reboot Reign Cloud.

Do I need to factory reset to fix issues?

Usually no. Factory reset is a last resort and should only be done with support guidance.

What if I replace my phone?

Install Nimbus, sign in to the same account, and use reconnect guidance when offered.

How do updates work during beta?

During beta, Reign Cloud updates use a guided manual update process. You’ll receive app and/or email instructions with a link to the website. Automatic update systems may become available later.

How do I get support?

Email support@nimbussystems.xyz. Support hours are Monday–Friday, 6:00 PM – 9:00 PM Mountain Time. Expected response time is usually within 48 hours. For business or general inquiries, email hello@nimbussystems.xyz.
